Researchers point to greeting cards as aid to recovery

A new study by the Royal College of Psychiatrists has found that only 31 per cent had received a get well soon card during a period of mental illness, but that 81 per cent believed such a gesture would have aided their recovery.

New report looks at schizophrenia and cannabis.

A new report published in September's edition of the Public Library of Science has looked at the question of whether cannabis usage should be considered as a risk factor for psychosis.

The Rudd Government has released their strategy on National Mental Health and Disability Strategy.

The report has been released by Senator the Hon Mark Arbib, Minister for Employment Participation and The Hon Bill Shorten MP Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Children’s Services. 

The report contains a lot of information on how services will improve; what will be available to improve access to education and training; support and encouragement to employers; improving public sector employment of  people with mental health and disabilities and introducing innovative strategies.

New resources available for culturally diverse communities

Multicultural Mental Health Australia (MMHA) has launched a new range of mental health resources for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.

The range includes CDs of information about mental health in over 20 languages and covering a broad range of topics.

The release came at the same time as MMHA announced a new stigma-busting program for multicultural communities, to be known as Stepping Out of the Shadows.
